Speaker cancels meeting to oust him due to forged signatures
Mncedi Mzwanana called off a no-confidence vote against him after alleging that 10 signatures on the petition were forged. The Tshwane multiparty coalition had requested the meeting, which the city manager ultimately called as reported by the Pretoria Rekord.
However, Mzwanana declared the meeting illegal due to the alleged forgery.
The legality of the petition itself has also been questioned. Cilliers Brink, a mayoral candidate, called Mzwanana’s actions “unlawful” and expressed concern over the instability and uncertainty caused by the situation.
The coalition plans to consult with attorneys.
