Soshanguve couple in court for murder

Sibusiso Mahlangu (33) and Lerato Mahlangu (32) came to Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. According to Jacaranda FM, the couple faces charges of premeditated murder, defeating the administration of justice, and fraud.

They allegedly killed a man in January last year. They burnt his body at their house in Soshanguve. They then staged the death of Sibusiso to allow Lerato to claim insurance policies. The wife subsequently got a death certificate from the Department of Home Affairs, saying Sibusiso perished in the fire and later claimed the life policies.

NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana stated that the couple was arrested on 20 April 2023 after the police found Sibusiso possessing a stolen car in Hammanskraal. During his arrest and processing, the police discovered that he was on the system as deceased, and he will be appearing at Hammanskraal Magistrate’s Court on 29 May 2023 for the Hammanskraal matter.

The court postponed the murder case against the couple to 18 May for a formal bail application.
