Sophiatown Policing Precinct Shaken by Murder Incident: Pastor Shot at Newlands Church
The community served by the Sophiatown policing precinct is in shock and mourning following a tragic murder incident that unfolded at a place of worship in Newlands. The incident has led to a police investigation into a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder after a pastor was shot during a church gathering and tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The Eagle Christian Centre in Newlands remains distressed as its members grapple with the loss of Pastor Dwayne Gordon, who was shot and subsequently lost his life.
According to Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, on the evening of October 6, a group of approximately six unknown individuals confronted a congregation within the church premises. The suspects, without warning, discharged firearms, resulting in injuries to three individuals. Tragically, the church pastor did not survive his injuries. The suspects robbed people of their cell phones and other personal belongings.

The police have opened a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
In response to the violence, the provincial commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, has unequivocally condemned the barbaric act. He urgently calls upon the community to collaborate with law enforcement agencies in addressing crime within the area. Residents should report criminal activities and provide any information that may aid the ongoing investigations.

All information received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality as the authorities work tirelessly to bring justice to those affected by this heart-wrenching incident.
