The recent snowfall has transformed parts of the country, including Johannesburg, into a stunning winter wonderland. Residents braved the freezing temperatures, embracing the rare opportunity to capture photos and videos and even constructing snowmen. The last time Johannesburg witnessed snow was back in August 2012 as reported by The Citizen.

Excitingly, there may be more snow in the forecast for Gauteng. Snow Report SA predicts the possibility of additional low-level snowfall across various regions of South Africa and Lesotho starting from Wednesday next week and continuing into the weekend.

Snowfall is currently anticipated in Lesotho, all South African provinces, and potentially extending slightly over the border into eSwatini. Johannesburg and parts of Gauteng are on the radar for potential light snow or flurries, while the Mpumalanga high-ground could experience widespread snowfall once again.

Although the data suggests an even lower freezing level compared to the recent snowfall, Snow Report SA cautions that the forecast could change dramatically due to limited moisture. They plan to provide regular updates in the coming days, with a more detailed forecast closer to the expected time.

It’s important to note that while the map from SnowReportSA indicates the possibility of snow, it may not fall in all areas depicted on the map.

In a separate weather advisory, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned about extremely high fire danger conditions in the Kai !Garib Local Municipality of the Northern Cape on Friday. The FDI index is above 75, signifying conditions that can lead to the rapid development and spread of fires, potentially causing damage to property and risking human and animal lives.

While Friday is not expected to bring any rainfall, the weather service does anticipate drizzle over the Limpopo escarpment in the morning.

Stay tuned for updates and stay safe in these varying weather conditions.
