Sifiso Mkhwanazi, Alleged Serial Killer, Ordered to Undergo Psychiatric Evaluation by Court
The Johannesburg High Court ordered serial killer Sifiso Mkhwanazi to receive psychiatric observation. EWN reports that the court ruled on Wednesday that the 21-year-old is guilty of the rape and murders of six women. These women are believed to be sex workers whom Mkhwanazi killed between April and October of 2022. The State brought forward 22 charges against Mkhwanazi, including:
- six of rape,
- six of murder and
- six of defeating the ends of justice, along with one of possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

The court concluded that Mkhwanazi premeditated all the murders and concealed his victims’ bodies to evade arrest. High Court Judge Caseem Moosa delivered a scathing account of the gruesome crimes to a packed gallery.
Additionally, the judge ordered that Mkhwanazi undergo psychiatric observation at Sterkfontein Hospital to determine whether he poses any danger to society. This order was unopposed by both the defence and the State. Mkhwanazi, stoic and seemingly fearful, sat in the dock without his family present. In contrast, bereaved family members of two of the victims anxiously awaited the judge’s ruling. Mkhwanazi will appear in court again on 8 May.
