Shauwn Mkhize’s Tax Woes Deepen: SARS Seizes Firearms and Luxury Cars in La Lucia Raid
This week, businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize found herself at the center of a high-profile raid conducted by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and other law enforcement agencies. The operation targeted her properties in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and Johannesburg, leading to significant seizures, including firearms, ammunition, and luxury vehicles.
Unlicensed Firearms Seized
The raid on Mkhize’s multimillion-rand La Lucia mansion uncovered over 40 unlicensed firearms, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns, alongside approximately 2,000 rounds of ammunition. SARS spokesperson Siphithi Sibeko stated that the inventory of confiscated items is still being finalized.
A source revealed that Mkhize attributed the weapons to a security company run by a taxi boss operating at the Durban Station taxi rank. However, the source highlighted discrepancies, noting, “The registered company address is in Coastlands, yet the 40 unlicensed firearms were discovered in La Lucia.”

During the raid, a security guard was arrested after being caught with six firearms hidden under sheets. The Durban North SAPS is conducting ballistic tests on the seized weapons to determine their potential involvement in criminal activities.
Ongoing Tax Dispute
The raid stems from a preservation order issued by the Durban High Court, authorizing SARS and other authorities to seize assets in connection with Mkhize’s alleged tax issues. Authorities have attached several of her high-value assets, including luxury vehicles, her football club Royal AM FC, and the Shandi Trust, in pursuit of outstanding tax payments.
A video circulating on social media showed luxury cars linked to Mkhize being towed away. The vehicles included a Mercedes-Benz Maybach, BMW X4 or X6, Mercedes-Benz AMG G63, Toyota Hilux Legend 50, and Mercedes-Benz Z-Class.
Affectionately known as Mam’Mkhize, the business mogul has been uncharacteristically silent on Instagram, where she typically engages with her 3.6 million followers. Her last post was made the Monday before the raid, marking a stark departure from her usually vibrant online presence.
While confidentiality laws prevent SARS from disclosing the exact amount owed, the raid intensifies the spotlight on Mkhize’s ongoing battles with tax authorities. Investigations into the seized assets and unlicensed firearms are underway, with further developments expected in the coming weeks.
