A sewer leakage at the intersection of Park Street and Pretoria Road in Kempton Park CBD has had significant negative implications for both businesses and pedestrians in the area.

Lawrence Magabane, the manager of Coat Corner, revealed that the issue began on August 1st. Businesses and local residents promptly reported the situation to the relevant authorities, resulting in the allocation of a reference number for tracking purposes.

Responding to the reports, a team was dispatched to address the problem on August 3rd. While progress has been made, Magabane indicated that a portion of the pipeline still requires repair.

The repercussions of the leakage have had a direct impact on local commerce. Magabane noted how the unpleasant odour of sewage has adversely affected his business operations. Customers entering the establishment are greeted with an unpleasant scent, leading to shorter stays as they choose to leave due to discomfort.

Addressing the issue, Magabane emphasised the necessity of promptly locating and rectifying the leak’s cause, emphasising its impact on both businesses and pedestrians.

Furthermore, Magabane revealed that the situation has also taken a toll on his personal health and that of his staff. The overpowering stench has made it challenging for employees to consume meals outdoors, thus hampering their overall well-being.

Moloko Mashilo, a local pedestrian, expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation. He stated that the sewage issue had diminished his enjoyment of shopping in the area, citing concerns for his health due to the ongoing problem.

To gather more information, the Kempton Express reached out to the relevant authorities, specifically the CoE, on August 4th. As of the current publication, there has been no response or comment from them regarding the matter.
