Security thwarts car theft near Laerskool in Nieuw Muckleneuk
An attempted car theft was foiled near Laerskool Anton van Wouw in Pretoria East on Tuesday. A suspect was caught in the act of breaking a car passenger window, prompting the involvement of security companies and law enforcement agencies following a call from the school.
Private security provider, Complete Security Intelligence (CSI), received a call around 11:00 alerting them to an individual attempting to steal a vehicle. Dana Bloem, CEO of CSI, stated that the control room was informed by Laerskool Anton van Wouw about a suspect in a black BMW trying to steal a White Toyota Fortuner.
Immediate action was taken as the control room dispatched personnel to the scene, arriving at 11:05 and making contact with the owner of the Fortuner. The owner confirmed that their vehicle’s front passenger window had been smashed. Despite the police being unavailable to attend the scene, officers escorted the owner to Brooklyn police station where a case was opened.
Expressing gratitude for the swift response and service provided, the owner commended CSI for scaring away the suspect(s). Meanwhile, recent crime statistics unveiled by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu for the first quarter of 2024/25 indicate a rise in criminal activities in Brooklyn.
