In the aftermath of a daring crime that stunned a local community, a determined search is underway for the ATM bombers responsible for a recent explosion outside a supermarket on Gideon Nkomo Drive, Etwatwa.

The incident occurred on August 18 when the assailants targeted the ATM, employing explosives to breach its security. The explosive detonation caused significant damage to the machine and its surroundings, leaving behind a scene of destruction.

Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the district communications officer for the South African Police Service (SAPS), revealed that officers spotted two armed individuals fleeing into a nearby veld after the explosion. As police officers closed in on the crime scene, the suspects reportedly opened fire on them. The officers returned fire.

Officers recovered two pistol cartridges from the scene after the shooting. The criminals made off with an undisclosed amount of money from the targeted ATM, further compounding the crime’s impact.
