In a recent incident caught on camera, a South African Police Service (SAPS) vehicle was seen escorting a reckless and negligent driver in Kuruman, Northern Cape. The video, which has since gone viral on social media, shows a car speeding through the streets with the police vehicle close behind, its lights flashing as reported by Crime in SA.

The incident has sparked outrage among members of the community, who are calling for an investigation into the matter. Many are also questioning why the SAPS would escort a driver who is putting the lives of others at risk.

According to eyewitnesses, the car driver was swerving in and out of traffic and driving on the wrong side of the road. The SAPS vehicle was seen blocking off intersections to allow the driver to continue his dangerous driving.

The Northern Cape Police Spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock, has confirmed an investigation is underway. “We are aware of the incident and are investigating the matter. The SAPS is committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens, and we take all incidents of reckless driving seriously.”

The incident again highlighted the issue of reckless driving on South African roads, which is responsible for many accidents and fatalities each year. Therefore, public members are urged to report incidents of reckless driving to the SAPS immediately.

Meanwhile, the SAPS has assured the public that any officers found to have acted negligently or against the law will face disciplinary action. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
