Tiaan Grundling and André Huysamen, well-known and beloved singers originally from Pretoria, have released a new single titled “Vat my saam,” marking their return after a decade without an original release. Despite their recent base in Yzerfontein on the West Coast of the Western Cape, both artists maintain strong connections to Pretoria.
Grundling emphasizes his enduring bond with Pretoria due to his parents still residing there.
“I was born there, grew up there, and all my friends and family still live there. It’s where my roots run deep. My parents have always supported me and given me the courage to carve a career in music. They drove me to every performance, and we enjoyed every moment together,” he nostalgically recalls.
As Huysamen lived and worked in Pretoria for 11 years, he also feels a strong connection to the city due to several family members residing there.
Both artists have received various awards, including recognition from the ATKV for their contribution to the promotion of Afrikaans Arts and Culture. Notable highlights include performances for a former president at the Union Buildings in Pretoria and at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg for an audience of nearly 70,000 people.
Grundling’s single “As die hemel huil” held the number-one spot on a local radio station for 13 weeks.
Their collaboration began after chance encounters at festivals across the country led to a shared passion for music. Through their music, they aim to convey a deeper message and connection, as reflected in their latest single “Vat my saam,” which focuses on a serene life journey and embracing change.
“Life is meant to be enjoyed. Sometimes we get so caught up in our worries and problems that we forget to let go and be present. As long as you are breathing, you have a purpose. As long as you know your purpose, every day will be an adventure,” reflects Huysamen.
The duo plans a nationwide tour in 2025 to promote their new music and connect with their loyal supporters. In addition to their joint projects, both artists are currently working on solo music endeavors.
