The Sandton Community Police Forum (CPF) held its annual general meeting (AGM) on July 30 at the Sandton Police Station.

This event served as an opportunity to report on the achievements of the CPF, South African Police Service (SAPS), and their community partnership over the past term, as well as to elect a new board to guide the CPF forward.

Roshan Byjnal, the public relations officer for Sandton CPF and the Joburg North CPF Sub-District, highlighted several significant accomplishments.

“Over the past terms, we have built a stronger relationship between the community and the CPF, with more people becoming aware of the CPF and how they can assist with community safety,” said Byjnal.

One of the notable achievements was the acknowledgement of sponsorships that enabled the CPF to donate ten cars to Sandton SAPS.

These sponsorships also supported the initiation of the License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera project in Sandton, creating a wider network for crime prevention and investigation. Additionally, the establishment of the Sandton Crime Prevention Business Forum has allowed the business community to collaborate with the CPF and SAPS on crime issues and initiatives.

Byjnal also emphasised the creation of a Joint Operations Command Centre between Sandton SAPS and Sandton CPF. This centre assists in crime prevention and the coordination of information and services, further strengthening the partnership between Sandton SAPS and the CPF.

“We would like to acknowledge and thank members of Sandton SAPS, representatives from the Department of Community Safety: Gauteng, the deputy chairperson of the Joburg North CPF Sub-District, and the members of Sandton CPF for their support and collaboration,” Byjnal expressed.

Looking ahead, Byjnal noted that the new board is enthusiastic about continuing and creating more initiatives with the community and law enforcement to enhance safety in Sandton. “We wish the team all the success with their projects,” he concluded.

“The meeting underscored the importance of community involvement and co-operation with law enforcement in making Sandton a safer place for everyone.”

The results of the election for the new board are as follows:
• Chairperson – Nehson Pillay
• Deputy chairperson – Jessica Louwrens
• Secretary – Yogi Govender
• Deputy secretary – Ragani Govender
• Treasurer – Nishan Chetty
• Public relations officer – Roshan Byjnal
