The Rotary Club of Sandton recently held their presidential induction meeting at the Bryanston Country Club.

Rotarian Richard Cimardi, on July 2, became inducted into the club’s prestigious legacy of presidents – taking over from the previous club president, Dr Ntombi Mhangwani.

Mhangwani is celebrated by the club for her contribution in the past year, where she has played key roles in communicating a vision for the club to achieve its goals and creating an alignment of purpose between the club’s shared vision, goals, and objectives.

Among the projects successfully conducted by the club in Mhangwani’s term of presidency include the Rotary Fun Day, a Poetry Competition, the Rotary Club blanket drive, and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Youth Camp.

“We watched young leaders embrace leadership lessons at [the] RYLA camp that will change and improve their lives,” Mhangwani reflected. “As the President of The Sandton Rotary Club, I had the honour of leading an amazing team of 34 Rotarians. Most importantly, I heeded the call by our global Rotary international president to try something new, and not be bound by the past, because Rotary clubs must be constantly renewed to avoid stagnation and retrogression.”

The new president, Richard Cimardi, spoke about how he became drawn to Rotary because of his grandfather, who served in the British army. Among Cimardi’s grandfather’s accolades was receiving the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow Medal. Cimardi acknowledged the big shoes he’s filling, stating that his plan is to lead the Rotary Club of Sandton by wearing his own shoes towards carrying on the magic of Rotary, furthering aims of incremental social change.
