Roodepoort police raided two high schools

Roodepoort police raided two high schools on Tuesday, 23 May 2023, as part of their school safety and search intervention program. The operation involved various policing units, including the Social Crime Prevention (SCP) unit, sector managers, the West Rand K9 unit, Community Policing Forum, and members from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.

Officers thoroughly examined approximately 1,200 learners from the two schools during the search. As a result, the authorities confiscated various contraband items, including marijuana, rolling papers, crushers, vapes, cigarettes, non-standard scissors, and alcohol. Sergeant Shimukazi Mbuli from the SCP unit sternly warned all scholars against carrying such illicit items at school, emphasizing the importance of focusing on their education.

The Roodepoort police are committed to maintaining a zero-tolerance approach towards crime and criminality within their policing precinct. Accordingly, the officers logged the confiscated items at the Roodepoort police station for destruction, and the relevant school departments will take the necessary actions.

The authorities have encouraged the public to provide any information they may have to the police. They can contact Crime Stop anonymously at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app on their cellular phones to report relevant details. By working together, the community and police can create a safer environment.
