Road Closures Around Sandton Convention Centre for BRICS Summit

There will be several road closures leading up to the BRICS summit. According to SAnews, these road closures ensure the safety and security of the high-profile event.

From Sunday, 20 August 2023, the road closures will be effective until 26 August 2023. Motorists and residents are to take note of these closures to plan their travel accordingly during this period.

The following road closures will be in effect:

  1. Maude Street: One-way traffic will occur from 5th Street to West Street.
  2. West Street: Lanes closest to the convention centre will be closed, while the lanes furthest away will remain open for traffic.
  3. Alice Lane: Similar to West Street, lanes closest to the convention centre will be closed, with the opposite lanes open for traffic.
  4. 5th Street: Like the previous streets, lanes closest to the convention centre will be closed, while the lanes furthest away will be accessible to traffic.

The Gauteng Police Board Initiative stated on Tuesday, requesting the community to be vigilant regarding the changes in routes due to the BRICS Summit. Additionally, they advised the public to stay updated on traffic announcements and to be ready for significant security measures and personnel presence in the Sandton Central Business District throughout the summit.

The summit will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre from 22 to 24 August, showcasing discussions and collaborations among these influential nations.
