Ride-hailing services have beefed up safety measures

Ride-hailing services have beefed up safety measures. They are taking this action because of the recent attacks and violence against e-hailing service operators in Soweto. According to IOL, Uber has introduced specific pick-up and drop-off points at various malls in Soweto to minimise risk to drivers and passengers.

Uber has implemented these changes in its app, with designated points at malls, including Maponya Mall, Protea Glen Mall, Jabulani Mall, Bara Mall, and more. Additionally, Uber has emphasised its commitment to safety by launching industry-leading features like the in-app emergency button, audio recording, GPS tracking, Trusted Contacts, and a safety check-Up.

The company urges both riders and drivers to be vigilant, trust their instincts, and utilise the safety features available in the app. By working together, riders and drivers can ensure safer journeys within their cities.
