Ekurhuleni Welcomes the Reopening of 18 Public Swimming Pools

After undergoing extensive maintenance and repairs during the winter season, 18 public swimming pools in the metro are set to reopen on September 1.

According to Zweli Dlamini, a spokesperson for the metro, some minor maintenance and repairs are still underway at pools in Vosloorus, Palm Ridge, Alberton, Benoni, Brakpan, Alra Park, Gerdview, and Van Dyk Park. These pools will open later in the season.

Following new tariffs, the entrance fee for community pools is now R11 per person. However, Delville (Germiston) and Boksburg North swimming pools, which fall under Category A pools, charge R15. Category A pools are typically Olympic-sized, heated indoor/outdoor facilities for provincial, national, and international events.

The operating hours for most swimming pools, excluding Boksburg North and Delville, are Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00 on Sundays and public holidays.

Boksburg North swimming pool has different hours, operating as follows:

  • Tuesday to Thursday: 05:00 to 20:00
  • Friday: 05:00 to 17:30
  • Saturday: 10:00 to 18:00
  • Sunday: 14:00 to 18:00

Delville Swimming Pool has the same operating hours, except it closes at 17:00 on Fridays.

It’s important to note that schoolchildren will only be allowed entry to public swimming pools during school hours if their schools have made prior arrangements, subject to approval by the City’s Sports and Recreation Department.

The following swimming pools will reopen on September 1: Atlasville, Benoni Northerns, Birchleigh, Boksburg North, Daveyton, Delville, Duduza, Ebuhleni, Eden Park, Edenvale, Etwatwa, Faranani, Klopperpark, Kwa-Thema, Primrose, Reiger Park, Selection Park, and Thokoza.
