Prophet Maphanga, a beloved spiritual figure in Tubatse, leaves behind a community in mourning after his tragic passing at 41. Affectionately known as Moruti Machatane, he met his untimely end in a devastating accident on the R37 on August 9.

The heart-wrenching incident occurred around 04:30 near the Gethlane turn-off at Maroni Farms. Travelling in his Suzuki Ertiga, Maphanga was on the route from Lydenburg to Burgersfort when he lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a collision with a marula tree.

Tragically, he was not alone during the accident. His friend, Aubrey Malepe, who accompanied him, also died in the crash, leaving a sad scene of loss and devastation.

A relative and family spokesperson, Petrus K Natis, confirmed the tragic details of the accident. Emergency Medical Services personnel who arrived at the scene found a heart-wrenching sight—a wrecked light motor vehicle crushed against a tree.

In honour of his memory, Prophet Maphanga will be laid to rest on August 19 in Praktiseer. His passing is a profound loss for the community, who will forever remember his contributions and the lives he touched as a spiritual leader.
