Update: North Sergeant Accused of Husband’s Murder Seeks Bail
A Pretoria North police sergeant (44) will appear in the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for murdering her husband.
Sergeant Lindiwe Hlungwane briefly appeared in court last Wednesday, January 31. Her case was postponed to February 6 for a formal bail application.
It is alleged that Lindiwe and her husband Russell argued around 00:30 on Sunday, January 28, resulting in a physical altercation.

Police watchdog Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Phaladi Shuping stated that it was alleged the husband took out Lindiwe’s service pistol and pointed it at her.
“During the commotion, Lindiwe allegedly grabbed the firearm, and during the scuffle, it discharged four times,” Shuping said.
The husband sustained four gunshot wounds and later died in the hospital.
The directorate arrested the sergeant later the same day for murder, and she has been in custody since.
