Pretoria is set for a summery weekend

Pretoria is in for a warm and sunny weekend as temperatures soar before cloudy weather and slight possibility of rain usher in the new week.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued some fire warnings for veld fire conditions around Gauteng as warm temperatures sweep across the country.

Temperatures on Friday are expected to peak at 32°C with clear skies throughout, and some light windy conditions calming the evening.

On Saturday, SAWS forecasts temperatures dipping to 17°C overnight before once again reaching 32°C.

Clear skies are expected to remain throughout the day, while the afternoon brings in some windy conditions.

SAWS forecasts temperatures to remain high on Sunday with overnight lows of 18°C and highs of 32°C, despite partly cloudy conditions throughout the day.

Cloudy conditions will continue into the new week with slightly milder temperatures, as Pretoria is expected to see a maximum of 30°C.

Early forecasts show a 30% chance of precipitation on Monday, with showers and thundershowers forecast for the evening. Temperatures are expected to dip for a mild week, and cloudy conditions will clear up by Wednesday.

While the SAWS veld fire warning was not issued for Pretoria, dry and hot weather can pose a risk of fire.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson, Lindsay Mnguni, urged residents to call the toll-free number 107 for emergencies if there is any fire danger to dwellings, such as shacks or houses, or vegetation or veld fires. Residents can alternatively call 012 358 6300/6400.
