Power has been restored to several areas affected by the recent outage in Rooiwal, north of Pretoria. The Tshwane metro’s technicians have successfully completed the dismantling and removal of burned panels at the Pyramid Substation, which was engulfed in flames on October 2.

The city’s emergency services swiftly responded to the incident and managed to extinguish the fire.

During the event, the 132kV Line 1 Bellom-Parktown tripped, resulting in an outage that impacted Pretoria North, Wonderboom, Wolmer, Pyramid, Pumulani, Koedoespoort, and parts of Waltloo substations. Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo reported that the team is currently testing new equipment that will be transported to the site today.

Mashigo further explained that the regional maintenance team is actively working on energizing through back feeding EB (Ebehoud) Line and Abattoir substation. “The team’s objective is to continually monitor the load on the system and gradually incorporate more of the affected areas back into the grid.”

Mashigo confirmed that power has been successfully restored to the following areas:

  • BA Line
  • Bon Accord Substation
  • P 8 to 74
  • Pyramid Clinic
  • Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment Plant

“The metro expresses its regret to the impacted residents for the inconvenience caused by the substation fire incident. Consumers will be kept informed of any further developments,” Mashigo assured.
