Kelly Khumalo arrested

The police wanted to have Kelly Khumalo arrested. The High Court in Pretoria heard groundbreaking details on Wednesday regarding an application by the police for the arrest of singer Kelly Khumalo in connection with the murder of her lover, football star Senzo Meyiwa.

According to EWN, two accused individuals alleged that Khumalo ordered the hit on the footballer. This revelation emerged during the ongoing trial for Meyiwa’s murder. The incident occurred at Khumalo’s mother’s home in October 2014, initially believed to be a robbery gone wrong. Five men are currently standing trial for the murder.

Despite police efforts to arrest Khumalo, including a J50 warrant application that went unsigned, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) decided to indict the current five accused individuals. Brigadier Bongani Gininda, in his statement, acknowledged that police believed in 2020 that Khumalo ordered the hit on Meyiwa. However, legal complexities surrounding confessions and the Criminal Procedure Act’s Section 219 challenge the admissibility of the accused implicating Khumalo as the mastermind. The NPA’s decision and potential further police actions remain pivotal in determining whether Khumalo will face trial.
