Gauteng’s First Plant Powered Show Chefs

The Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre in Johannesburg are set to host Gauteng’s inaugural Plant Powered Show from Friday, August 4, to Sunday, August 6. The event boasts an impressive lineup of renowned chefs, including Zola Nene, Wandile Mabaso, Deena Naidoo, Andile Somdaka, and Sue Gajathar, who will participate in this gastronomic feast as reported by IOL.

Having previously enjoyed great success in Cape Town, the Plant Powered Show is making its debut in Gauteng, targeting anyone with interest in food, health, wellness, the environment, or conscious living. The show also caters to trade professionals, including those in retail, restaurants, hotels, and hospitality establishments, along with local distributors and exporters seeking cutting-edge, high-quality products.

The event will feature free demos in The Checkers Plant Kitchen, powered by Simple Truth, where the audience can indulge in free samples of the chefs’ creations. Moreover, many of the participating chefs will also offer practical Masterclasses, allowing up to 20 premium ticket holders to learn the art of creating various plant-based dishes from the experts themselves.

Among the esteemed lineup of chefs and mixologists are media personality Zola Nene, chef Wandile Mabaso, wild and indigenous chef Gregory Henderson, food stylist Chad January, farmer and creator of African Marmala Siphiwe Sithole, cooking duo William Wood and Lulu Haangala Wood, well-known chef Siyabulela Kobo, registered dietitian and chef Rea – the Cooking Dietitian, and the first-ever MasterChef South Africa winner Deena Naidoo.

The free demonstrations at The Checkers Plant Kitchen will showcase intriguing dishes such as Earth, Wind, and Fire by Wandile Mabaso, Millet and African Melon dish by Siphiwe Sithole and Andile Somdaka, Boerpampoen Panna Cotta, Marula Caviar, and Crumble by Gregory Henderson, among others.

In the Masterclasses, attendees can learn to create Vegan Chocolate Marula Nut Clusters with Gregory Henderson, The Butterfly Effect with mixologist Gwylm Humphreys, African Bean Balls with Siphiwe Sithole, and more exciting dishes.

The event will also include engaging speeches by top health and wellness experts in the McCain Health & Wellness segment, covering topics such as Forgotten Food Systems, Vegan Certification and Labelling, and McCain Foods Farms of the Future.

In addition to the culinary delights, attendees can enjoy the Valpré Hospitality Area for networking and relaxation, the Plant Jungle Pub offering conscious cocktails by top mixologists, pop-up eateries serving delicious foods, and daily yoga demos and classes hosted by The Nest Space.

The Plant Powered Marketplace will be stocked with a wide range of plant-based food, drinks, and conscious living products for sampling and purchase.
