A pensioner tried to smuggle drugs to Europe, and the Hawks apprehended her at Cape Town International Airport for attempting to smuggle drugs worth millions. Acting on a tip-off, the South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau intercepted the 63-year-old woman, discovering 3.5kg of heroin valued at R1.6 million in her luggage. Briefly News reports that an interdisciplinary operation involving the Hawks, Border Policing Unit, and Gauteng Crime Intelligence led to her arrest before boarding a European flight. She faced drug dealing charges at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 7 August.
