During the recent long weekend, a remarkable collaborative effort among crime prevention stakeholders in Ekurhuleni led to the arrest of over 129 suspects, as reported by Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile, the Acting Communication Officer for the SAPS Ekurhuleni district. One of the notable joint operations occurred on September 22, resulting in the apprehension of four suspects in Greenstone. The Edenvale Community Policing Forum (CPF) had received information indicating that a group of suspects was planning a potential armed robbery or hijacking. Acting on this intelligence, stakeholders identified a vehicle matching the description in Greenstone. Upon inspection, officers discovered four individuals inside the vehicle and uncovered two unlicensed firearms, live ammunition, and other items.

In a separate incident in nearby Norkem Park, officers arrested an individual suspected of involvement in a Hoedspruit cash-in-transit heist. During the arrest, live ammunition was found in the suspect’s possession.

Warrant Officer Mashile reported that the arrests made during this operation encompassed a wide range of offences, including possession of car-breaking tools, theft, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen property, rape, possession of ammunition, common robbery, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and suspected driving under the influence.
