Over 6000 public transport licences must be renewed in Gauteng

Over 6000 public transport licences must be renewed in Gauteng, but only less than 500 applications are processed. According to Section 25 of the National Land Transport Regulations, licences must be renewed 30 days before expiration. The Citizen reports that existing licences remain valid if the Provincial Regulatory Entity hasn’t issued a renewed licence. The deadline for licence renewal is July 31, 2023.

Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport urges operators to take advantage of the window of opportunity. The department also asked industry leaders to encourage affected members to submit renewal applications. The department stresses the importance of compliance for smooth and legal vehicle operation. Failure to renew licences may lead to legal consequences and jeopardise safety.

Melitah Madiba highlighted the department’s commitment to a well-regulated transport network. Operators should liaise with the department to renew licences before the deadline.
