Family says one of three ‘Bester escape’ bodies could be their missing relative

A family in Free State are awaiting DNA tests to confirm if one of the three bodies claimed from the state mortuary by Thabo Bester’s girlfriend and alleged accomplice, Dr Nandipha Magudumana, is that of their relative. Authorities thought Bester had died after setting himself on fire behind bars. Still, in late March, police revealed that DNA tests had shown the charred remains in his cell belonged to someone else, according to African Insider.

Police Minister Bheki Cele spoke about the alleged cover-up of the escape and disclosed that Magudumana claimed three bodies, one of which experts had verified that Bester’s accomplices had used in his escape. Over the weekend, the burned body in Bester’s cell was identified as Katlego Mpholo, leaving two more bodies unidentified.

However, a family in Free State believes that one of the bodies could be their relative, as reported by eNCA. The report stated that Godfrey Letsotso, 66, was last seen by his family in Kimberley when his sister last saw him at a taxi headed for Bloemfontein. Following allegations that Magudumana had claimed multiple bodies from the Bloemfontein state mortuary, the family contacted the police, who then conducted DNA tests and took the family to view the bodies on April 19th.

According to the report, the DNA results are yet to be confirmed.
