Observatory Substation Fire Plunges Joburg Areas into Darkness: Watch the Impact
The Observatory substation fire left several areas in Gauteng without electricity after a blaze erupted on Saturday morning, as reported by City Power. Responding swiftly, teams implemented an emergency isolation plan from 3 am, with ongoing efforts to contain the fire. According to IOL, City Power emphasised that a comprehensive investigation into the fire’s cause and the extent of the damage would follow once the flames were extinguished. Isaac Mangena, spokesperson for City Power, noted that the control room suffered significant equipment damage during the incident. Currently, mop-up operations are in progress, and a dedicated team is diligently working to restore electricity to the affected areas.
