Mapisa-Nqakula’s Attempt to Block Her Arrest Removed from Court Roll
The Pretoria High Court has struck off the application of the speaker of the National Assembly, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, to interdict her arrest. According to EWN, the court found that Mapisa-Nqakula’s statement was irrelevant, and it could not block her arrest. She is facing 12 corruption and money laundering counts as she faces accusations of getting more than R4.5 million in kickbacks from a contractor while still at the Ministry of Defense.

On Saturday, Mapisa-Nqakula’s legal team submitted an interdict to prevent her arrest because they suspected her dignity would be violated. However, Judge Sulet Potterill ruled that Mapisa-Nqakula’s case lacked strength and urgency, dismissing her bid to prevent her arrest.
