St. Louis City Director Shares Insights on Blom’s MLS Debut
The Sporting Director of St. Louis City SC, Lutz Pfannenstiel, recently provided an update on the progress of Njabulo Blom, a South African midfielder who recently joined the America-based club from Kaizer Chiefs. According to his interview with SNL24, Blom was present with the team during their pre-season preparations in anticipation of the new Major League Soccer Season, which began in late February. In his first game of the season, Blom debuted for the MLS side in a 3-2 win over Austin FC after being brought on as a substitute for injured midfielder Indiana Vassilev.
Pfannenstiel commended Blom’s performance in his debut and provided an update on his stay so far. He expressed satisfaction in signing Blom in December, stating that his work permit was worth waiting for. He revealed that Blom joined the team during their first training camp in Florida for just two to three days before returning with them to Saint Louis. Despite the freezing weather conditions during their initial games in California, Blom had adjusted well and worked hard.
Furthermore, Pfannenstiel shed light on the adaptation process of the 23-year-old and how he has settled under the tutelage of South African coach Bradley Carnell. He noted that Blom was fortunate to have a coach who was familiar with the culture and that he seemed pretty at home upon his arrival. However, Blom’s most significant challenges were the weather and food, as the midfielder had never played in snowy or icy conditions. Additionally, the game’s speed in the MLS differs from what he used to. St. Louis City is a transition team that will take some time for him to adjust.
In conclusion, Pfannenstiel provided a positive update on Blom’s progress thus far, praising his debut performance and overall adaptation to the new environment. While some challenges may be to overcome, Blom has settled in well at St. Louis City, SC. The team looks forward to seeing him continue to develop and make an impact in the league.
