A man who protested naked at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Wednesday was transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Col Mavela Masondo, law enforcement was summoned to the scene following reports of the man allegedly causing damage to the statue of former president Nelson Mandela at the Union Buildings as reported by TimesLIVE.

Masondo stated that he could not immediately confirm whether the statue had been harmed.

Officers accompanied the man to a nearby hospital for examination, Masondo added.

The incident was captured on video and has quickly spread across social media platforms.

In the footage, the naked man can be seen walking around Mandela’s statue while holding what appears to be a stick.

Sello Machete, one of the individuals who recorded the incident, informed TimesLIVE that the man was protesting against various issues.

“He expressed his discontent with load-shedding and placed blame on President Cyril Ramaphosa for the current state of poor service delivery in the country. He also voiced his grievances about the economy. He was visibly furious,” Machete explained.
