Sanral has alerted motorists in Tshwane about the potential closure of sections on the N1 highway between the Kosmosdal-Samrand, and Rooihuiskraal interchanges this weekend. The closure will be implemented in stages, allowing Eskom to install new overhead transmission power lines and a conductor.

The road is expected to be closed from Saturday, June 10, to Sunday, June 11, with specific closure times of 06:00 to 18:00 on Saturday and 06:00 to 12:00 on Sunday for a six-kilometre stretch.

However, complete closures may be required during cable installation, and adjustments to the schedule may occur based on weather conditions.

Sanral emphasises that this work may cause disruptions and delays, especially in the afternoon, and advises motorists to follow temporary signs and use the R101 detour route.

Officials from the Johannesburg and Tshwane metro police departments will provide traffic management.

Motorists are urged to stay informed about official announcements regarding the road closures.

The need for these installations arises from a recent incident in which an Eskom power line collapsed due to vandalism, initially believed to be caused by structural failure.
