Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku, present at the scene, shared insights with News24. He revealed that the driver of a 4×4 vehicle had lost control, leading to a collision with a Mini Cooper and subsequent involvement in a multi-car accident, which included the SAPS vehicle.

Fihla, addressing the situation, explained that JMPD officers had taken the necessary steps to close the M1 South and redirect traffic flow. The cause is under investigation.

“What we know at the moment is that the accident involved five vehicles. The number of fatalities is also under investigation. The M1 South is completely closed near Corlett Drive,” he stated.

SAPS, when approached for information, directed all inquiries to JMPD.
