A male motorist was arrested for a hit and run in Braamfischerville over the weekend. According to a statement by the JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, police officers patrolling in the Roodeport CBD on Saturday spotted a white Volkswagen Polo with a shattered windscreen with two occupants inside.

The officers stopped the vehicle and asked the driver about his shattered windscreen. The driver, the passenger’s son, claimed that the community of Jabulani, Soweto, had stoned their vehicle. However, the officers noticed a big dent in the vehicle’s bonnet, which led to further interrogation.

When the police questioned the driver further, he admitted knocking down a pedestrian at Elias Motsoaledi Road next to the Engen filling station in Braamfischerville. The officers escorted him back to the scene. They found a dead male pedestrian. The motorist was arrested and detained at Dobsonville SAPS. He will appear in court during the week.
