Mongoose Park celebrates its official opening

Centurion residents were not only treated to the Boks’ win but also to the opening of Mongoose Park and the annual Spring Walk this past weekend.

Nestled in the Cornwall Hill Estate, the park opening brought together families and friends around the area to enjoy a nature walk, some rugby and entertainment.

Estate manager Graham Jones says that they merged the opening of the park with the annual 5km Spring Walk.

“It’s a vision I’ve had for some time. We’ve got beautiful vistas, we’ve got an abyss we can use which has not been used before so we had to do some work, clearing it out so people can sit here, commune, meet each other, meet their neighbours and relax,” Jones.

A lookout deck viewing the large quarry was installed by Jones and his team after having to cut through large amounts of bushveld to open up the area.

Jones says that they are looking to install a mountain bike track at the park and are currently working out the technical aspects of it.

Board member and spokesperson, Peter Morey says they hope to make the space a hub for families, with regular movie and karaoke nights on the cards.

“It’s called Mongoose Park because we’ve got a family of mongoose that live nearby and the plan for this area is to keep the community together, to get to know each other and to communicate,” Morey says.
