Miss Earth South Africa 2023 Crowned at Southern Sun Sandton
On the evening of September 9, Southern Sun Sandton was ablaze with anticipation and enthusiasm as it played host to the illustrious Miss Earth South Africa 2023 winner’s announcement gala dinner. This year marked the 20th anniversary of the event, which brought together finalists from across the nation, esteemed judges Zizo Tshwete, JJ Tabane, Abigail Visagie, and Leanne Manas, and a gathering of fervent environmental advocates, community service enthusiasts, and green champions. The crowning moment of the evening was the unveiling of the 2023 winner.

In a triumphant turn of events, Zabelo Hlabisa, a 29-year-old from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal, emerged victorious, capturing the hearts of both the esteemed judges and the captivated audience with her unwavering commitment to environmental causes. Hlabisa’s triumph was not solitary, as she was joined by three remarkable runners-up who will collaborate with her in the coming year to advance the mission of environmental education, awareness, and community programs. Belinde Schreuder, Duduzile Mbobo, and Zama Mbatha were honoured with the titles of Miss Air, Miss Water, and Miss Fire, respectively.
The event boasted distinguished guests, including Nelson Muffuh, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in South Africa, and Sithembile Ntombela, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Brand South Africa, who both expressed their unwavering support and admiration for the program’s impactful work.
Candy Tothill, Southern Sun’s Head of Marketing, congratulated the Miss Earth South Africa 2023 winners, emphasising the group’s steadfast commitment to environmental education and awareness. She articulated their eagerness to collaborate with the newly crowned Miss Earth South Africa and the 2023 program ambassadors to champion environmental causes as part of the group’s comprehensive environmental management plan. In addition, she lauded the Miss Earth South Africa program for its tireless dedication over two decades toward cultivating an environmentally responsible country, highlighting Southern Sun’s decade-long partnership with the transformative initiative.
Catherine Constantinides, Executive Director of Miss Earth South Africa and an internationally renowned climate activist and human rights defender, underscored the program’s enduring commitment to empowering young women as active citizens and catalysts for change. She commended the winners for their dedication to their communities and urged them to continue their remarkable efforts in effecting positive change.
