RTMC Cautions Traffic Officers Against Bribery

The Gauteng Police have commended the Midrand Police for their prompt action in rescuing a woman who was allegedly kidnapped by two men, leading to the arrest of the suspects involved in the kidnapping and fraud incident. The suspects, aged 25 and 32, were apprehended using a pellet gun and a rented vehicle with a false number plate in their attempt to abduct the woman.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the spokesperson for the Gauteng Police, detailed the incident in a statement. On December 4, Midrand officers, while on patrol, spotted a suspicious vehicle at a petrol station in Midrand. Their quick response led to the discovery of three individuals in the car, two men and the kidnapped woman. The victim indicated that she had been kidnapped by the two men, whom she met about two weeks earlier in Sandton. After exchanging numbers, one of the suspects arranged a meet-up and picked her up. The situation escalated when the second suspect was picked up, and the woman was threatened with a gun and forced to open her banking app, leading to an undisclosed amount of money being transferred from her accounts.

Further investigation revealed that the weapon used was a pellet gun and the car was rented and equipped with a false number plate. The suspects were arrested on the spot and later appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on December 6, facing charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, and fraud.

Colonel Nevhuhulwi emphasized the importance of public vigilance, especially during the festive season, warning that criminals often employ various tactics to target vulnerable victims. Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela praised the effective actions of the Midrand Police in removing criminals from the streets and reaffirmed the police’s commitment to combating fraud and kidnapping. “We remain resolute in the fight against the scourge of fraud and kidnapping and will continue ensuring that those who deal in such crimes are identified and brought to book,” Mawela concluded. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to ensure public safety and security.
