Families Confront Alleged Attacker of Joburg Women Set Ablaze in Court

Mark Brian Harvey, 43, appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of murder and arson after allegedly dousing two women with petrol and setting them alight in Florida, Joburg. According to IOL, he sustained injuries during the arson attack and remains hospitalised.

Tasneem Raymond, speaking on behalf of the victims’ families, expressed emotional turmoil upon seeing Harvey in court and emphasised the need for justice. The case docket is now with the Director of Public Prosecutions, possibly indicating a move to the high court for trial.

The incident, which resulted in the deaths of Marishka Davids, 30, and Zakkiyah Raymond, 38, follows concerns raised by Police Minister Bheki Cele about the rising murder rate in South Africa.
