Man Shot at Brakpan Cemetery While Paying Respects to Wife

Early yesterday, tragedy struck at Brakpan Cemetery when a 74-year-old man was shot while visiting his wife’s grave.

Around 10:00 AM, a sudden, horrifying presence emerged as he solemnly stood beside the gravesite—an unidentified gunman. Without warning, the elderly man was cruelly shot in the stomach, his condition becoming critical instantly.

After the shocking act, the assailant took an even more disturbing turn. He compelled the injured man into his vehicle and, astonishingly, tried to start it. Yet, the vehicle’s engine resisted, leaving the victim trapped helplessly in the car’s trunk. He managed to make a harrowing phone call.

Fortunately, luck was on the victim’s side. Upon receiving her father’s frantic call, his daughter resided nearby and hurried to the scene. The sight of her was truly distressing. Without delay, she coordinated her father’s swift transfer to a local hospital, recognising the urgency of his medical needs.

Meanwhile, the assailant, understanding the gravity of his actions, hastily fled, leaving a chilling and unsettling crime scene behind. Law enforcement agencies have promptly launched a comprehensive investigation into this shocking incident, officially filing it as a case of attempted murder.
