Pretoria Mob Justice Incident: Man Set Ablaze in Apparent Vigilante Attack
In a grim incident, a man was set alight in Pretoria. His charred remains were discovered on a road in Maude Park, Atteridgeville, near Phatogeng Primary School on Friday, September 1. This dreadful discovery followed the murder of two women whose bodies were found in Lotus Garden, located west of Pretoria. The suspicion is that one of the victims was the man’s girlfriend. However, their identities are unconfirmed.
Gauteng Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson Annikie Lelaka revealed that the man allegedly fled after committing the two murders in Lotus Gardens. Subsequently, the local community reportedly spotted him in Atteridgeville, initiated a pursuit, caught him, and set him on fire.
Lelaka explained, “Even SAPS could not stop the community from burning him.”

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk confirmed that a murder case was under investigation. The department has not officially confirmed the age of the deceased man, and he stated, “Police are following up on information. The detectives are investigating the allegations that he is involved in other crimes.”
Regarding the incident, Lelaka noted that paramedics responded to a call from Atteridgeville at 15:30. Upon arrival at the scene, they encountered a group of individuals, including police officers. The SAPS requested assistance from the EMS team.
Tragically, the man’s body was burnt beyond recognition. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene. Investigations into this horrifying series of events are ongoing.
