Man Accused of Murdering Wife Faces Upcoming Court Appearance
Mzwandile Mphahlele, the man accused of murdering his wife, is set to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on October 9. The charges stem from an incident in 2019 when Prudence Nhlanhla Mphahlele (43) was allegedly murdered in their Boksburg home on November 17.
Mzwandile had initially faced a charge of murder in 2019 but received bail of R10,000. He claimed that Prudence had drowned herself in the bathtub. However, her family disputed this account. They pointed to postmortem results that indicated she had been strangled.

Prudence’s sister expressed her shock and grief. She received a call in the early hours of that fateful day, urging her to rush to her sister’s house, where she discovered Prudence’s lifeless body.
Prudence’s family and activists from People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) gathered outside the court on July 11 last year, demanding justice for her. They were deeply disturbed that Mzwandile had gotten out on bail, particularly during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.
Despite Mzwandile’s absence during his trial on July 6 due to his mother’s passing, Prudence’s family and advocates continue to seek justice for her untimely death.
