Mams man accused of shooting brother, girlfriend denied bail
A 41-year-old Faces Charges of Attempted Murder
In a recent court appearance at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, a 41-year-old individual identified as Vusi Madubanya, also known as Tsiki Divovo and residing in White City, Mamelodi East, has been charged with attempted murder. Madubanya has been remanded in police custody following the denial of bail.
The charges stem from a violent shooting incident that resulted in injuries to several victims, including the suspect’s girlfriend, brother, mother, and colleague. The incident took place at Madubanya’s family home in Mamelodi. As the case undergoes further investigation, Madubanya will remain in custody until the next court date scheduled for October 29.
Arrest and Allegations
According to Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the suspect was apprehended in Soshanguve after being traced to the location. Madubanya was found in possession of a firearm on October 6, with evidence linking him to the crime of attempted murder in Mamelodi.
The Altercation
Van Dyk stated that the altercation began when the suspect and his girlfriend were involved in a quarrel, leading his younger brother and mother to intervene. Allegedly, Madubanya shot his girlfriend in the left breast and right side of the stomach, and his younger brother in the leg. Despite initial reports of the girlfriend’s demise, she is now reported to be in stable condition at the intensive care unit of Mamelodi Regional Hospital, suffering from stomach and shoulder injuries.
Family’s Account
The suspect’s father, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed the family’s trauma in the wake of the tragic events. He recounted being alerted by loud arguing in the yard during the early hours of the incident. Witnesses reported that while Madubanya was assaulting his girlfriend, family members attempted to intervene, only for the suspect to persist in demanding payment from her.
