Gauteng Man Arrested for Murder of Girlfriend Found Inside Burnt Out Car
Gauteng police have arrested a man, identified as the boyfriend of the victim, Mahlaku Malebo Rabalao. Police discovered her lifeless body inside a burnt-out car in March. According to police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, authorities received a distress call about a burning vehicle in Midrand on March 7, 2023. news24 reports that they found a Mercedes-Benz engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, they found human remains in the car’s front seat, later identified as Rabalao.
The case went to the provincial investigation unit. During their inquiry, it came to light that the victim had been killed and then burnt inside the vehicle. Following their investigation, the Randburg Magistrate’s Court issued a warrant of arrest for the suspect, Rabalao’s boyfriend. The unit traced the suspect to KwaZulu-Natal on Friday. It was there where they arrested him.

The 30-year-old man will receive a murder charge. He will appear at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela commended the investigation team for their dedication to the case, reiterating the police force’s commitment to prioritizing cases involving women and children as victims.
Authorities continue to stress the importance of reporting suspicious or violent behaviour to protect vulnerable individuals in the community and seek justice for victims like Mahlaku Malebo Rabalao.
