Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s Legal Saga: A Second Court Appearance
Dr Nandipha Magudumana made a second appearance at the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court earlier today alongside her father and two others, who faced several serious charges. According to IOL, Magudumana faced charges of defeating the ends of justice by assisting “Facebook Rapist” Thabo Bester in escaping prison, fraud, violating corpses and murder.
Integritron CCTV technician Tebogo James Lipholo, her father, Zolile Cornelius Sekeleni, and former G4S prison warden Senohe Matsoara also joined her in the dock. Authorities expect the accused to apply for bail at the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court. However, there is also the possibility of them receiving more charges.
Magudumana and Bester landed in South Africa from Tanzania amid a heavy police presence last week. According to reports, Magudumana had stolen three dead bodies from a mortuary and pretended to be Bester’s customary wife. In addition, she claimed that one of the bodies was that of her father. She arranged for one of these bodies for authorities to find in Bester’s cell in his place during his escape.
Before the scandal, Magudumana had a reputation as a celebrity doctor who many people loved. Magudumana is the founder and CEO of Optimum – Medical Aesthetics Solution. She is famous for her luxurious lifestyle and luxurious cars and mansion. She also ranked in SADC the Top 100 Young Leaders 2018, the Mail&Guardian 200 Young SA, and Top 20 Most Influential Young South Africans 2018.
The allegations against Magudumana and her co-accused are grave. They are facing accusations of aiding and abetting a dangerous criminal, among other charges. The fact that Magudumana had claimed dead bodies from a mortuary, and had falsely claimed to be Bester’s customary wife, only adds to the suspicion around her. The court case was closely watched.
