M1 Freeway Blocked as Police Investigate Crime Scene After Shootout with Suspected Criminals

This morning, the M1 freeway is blocked in the southern part of Johannesburg, with a heavy police presence causing road closures in both directions. EWN reports that the incident followed a shootout between law enforcement and alleged criminals last night.

Motorists travelling on the M1 freeway between Xavier Street and Booysens Road have encountered road closures, and authorities advise commuters to consider alternative routes.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson, Xolani Fihla, provided details about the situation: “The South African Police Service is currently processing the scene, and traffic traveling on the M1 north is being redirected at Xavier Street. Traffic from the M1 south is being diverted onto Booysens Road. We urge motorists to remain vigilant and take note of these closures.”
