Lungelo Sithole got a 15-year prison sentence

Lungelo Sithole got a 15-year prison sentence for attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on July 7. The 31-year-old from Beyers Park pleaded guilty to both counts. The court also declared that he was unfit to possess a firearm.

The incident took place on April 24 when Sithole, along with Zane de Klerk (32) from Reiger Park, robbed an e-hailing driver at gunpoint, making off with the victim’s vehicle, cellphone, shoes, bank cards, driver’s license, cash, and documents.

In his statement, Sithole admitted that they pretended to be passengers and lured the driver to drop them off in Reiger Park. During the journey, they decided to rob the driver. Sithole’s accomplice shot the victim in the stomach, and they fled the scene with the stolen vehicle, intending to sell it and share the money found inside.

Sithole has a history of previous convictions, including possession of stolen property, fraud, house burglary with the intent to steal, and theft.

As a result of his actions, the magistrate sentenced Sithole to 12 years imprisonment for attempted murder and an additional three years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Boksburg North SAPS station commander, Colonel Mack Mngomezulu, commended Sergeant Tshepo Matshaba for diligently investigating the case, stating that this sentence should serve as a warning to others contemplating criminal acts.
