Luke Fleurs, a Kaizer Chiefs defender, was sadly the victim of a botched carjacking in Honeydew, Johannesburg. According to IOL, Fleurs was almost killed when the perpetrators stopped him at the petrol station, shooting him once in his upper body. He died while emergency services transported him to the medical centre. Police have opened a murder and car hijacking investigation. However, no arrests have been made yet. Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni has formed an investigative team of detectives to lead the investigation. He has also appealed to the public to furnish authorities with any information.

Luke Fleurs, a rising star in the local football scene, spent his early years at Ubuntu Cape Town’s academy. In 2018, he passed to SuperSport United and played 100 games for the squad. He joined Kaizer Chiefs in October last season but didn’t represent them on the field. The SA national team recruited him, but he did not play his first international match.
