This new flight departing from OR Tambo International Airport in South Africa to Munich, located in Bavaria, southern Germany, will operate every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday morning. It complements the existing daily services to Frankfurt by Lufthansa and Zurich by SWISS.

The Munich flight departing Johannesburg at 09:00 am offers an alternative travel time to Europe, creating a more flexible schedule for travellers. Together with Cape Town, this addition brings the total weekly connections from the airline group, including Lufthansa, SWISS, and Edelweiss, to 25.

Matthias Lefevre, General Manager of Sales Southern Africa, Lufthansa Group Airlines, notes that both year-round routes, Munich and Frankfurt, are priced at the same level. Passengers can enjoy flights on a Boeing 747-8 (Jumbo) or an Airbus A350, as Lufthansa is committed to providing comfortable and popular aircraft for its South African routes.

This new flight to Munich, one of Lufthansa’s two hubs, opens up connectivity to approximately 130 destinations globally, spanning Europe, America, Asia, and the Middle East. Notably, this route had previously been part of Lufthansa’s schedule in 2005.

Munich Airport, the second largest in Germany and seventh largest in Europe, offers a five-star experience and serves as the base for all Lufthansa Group carriers. South Africans considering visiting Bavaria will find the region captivating, with its alpine landscapes, picturesque lakes, renowned castles, and charming traditional villages. Munich is a vibrant travel destination famous for its Christmas markets, major events like the Oktoberfest beer festival, and matches featuring the football team FC Bayern München. Moreover, the Alps are easily accessible, just one hour away by train or car from the airport.
