Liquor and cash were stolen

Liquor and cash were stolen during recent break-ins in Rand West City. Recent incidents in the area have once again raised security concerns. Local security firm Mapogo A Mathamaga reported two severe crimes in the area between September 6 and 8.

The first incident involved a break-in and theft at a business in Homelake on September 6. The perpetrators gained entry to the property by climbing up a side staircase. Mapogo’s armed response units responded promptly, but the criminals managed to evade arrest by jumping to a neighbouring roof and fleeing the scene. Unfortunately, they made off with unspecified money and liquor during their escape.

Mapogo’s operations manager, Danie Vermeulen, explained that another incident occurred on September 9, this time involving vandalism on Lourie Street in Greenhills. An alarm at the premises triggered the response of armed units. They encountered an individual who claimed to be renting the property from the owner.

However, the security officers found a gate and the garage door had been forced open. They contacted the property owner. He confirmed he did not know the person claiming to rent the property. Subsequently, the suspect was apprehended. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had vandalised the house.

The unit handed over the suspect to the Randfontein police for further legal proceedings.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and the role that security companies play in responding to and addressing criminal activities within communities.
