Wild animals have been making unexpected appearances on the streets of Gauteng throughout 2023, and the latest report is no different. As per Jacaranda FM, the Johannesburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals issued a Facebook warning that a lion was spotted in Oakdale.

According to the Facebook post, multiple accounts have poured in. They suggest there is a lion or lioness in this suburb of Johannesburg. Surprisingly, it was even spotted near The Glen Shopping Centre.

Despite thorough efforts by JSPCA inspectors, they have yet to verify the presence of the lion or lioness conclusively. The Facebook post, however, takes a cautious stance and strongly discourages approaching the animal if anyone encounters it.

The post urges residents to “remain indoors and promptly contact our Duty Inspector at 083 604 1172. While we cannot confirm the veracity of this report, we are unwilling to take any risks. In South Africa, unexpected events are not uncommon!”
